Blue Card (QLD)
Queensland's Working With Children Check is the Blue Card, administered by Blue Card Services. It is the clearance a person must hold to do child-related work in Queensland. Oho recognises it as a Queensland Blue Card and can confirm it against the official register.
Who needs it
Anyone engaged in child-related work in Queensland. A paid Blue Card is typically valid for around three years; a volunteer card for around two years.
What Oho needs
The Blue Card number printed on the card, plus the holder's name.
How Oho verifies it
Oho queries Blue Card Services in real time and returns a result in under ten seconds. Employer linkage in Queensland is manual: it requires an explicit employer action rather than being established automatically by the verification. Once verified, Oho re-checks it on the schedule you set up in the Verification Sources tab.
Renewals do not flow through automatically for Queensland. When a Blue Card is renewed, it must be re-checked manually — the new card details will not appear in Oho on their own.
Queensland also recognises certain exemptions in place of a Blue Card; those are handled separately as an exemption rather than as a Blue Card.
Reading the result
Every check resolves to one of a few outcomes, shown with a colour so it's easy to scan:
| Outcome | Colour | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| MAY_ENGAGE | Green | Valid and current — the person is cleared for the work. |
| MAY_NOT_ENGAGE | Red | Not valid — for example expired, suspended, cancelled, or no matching record. |
| REVIEW_REQUIRED | Yellow | Valid but carries conditions worth a person reviewing before relying on it. |
| IN_PROGRESS | Grey | Still being checked — some registers take a little longer to respond. |
| ERROR | Grey | The register couldn't be reached; Oho will try again. |
Oho keeps watching afterwards and updates the outcome automatically if the status changes, and the worker's profile keeps a history of every check.
