Teacher Registration (NSW – NESA)
Teachers in New South Wales must be registered (accredited) with NESA — the NSW Education Standards Authority. Oho can confirm a NESA accreditation against the official register.
Who needs it
Anyone teaching in a NSW school or early childhood setting that requires NESA accreditation. A person may hold teacher registrations in more than one state at the same time, and Oho tracks each state's registration separately.
What Oho needs
The registration number and the teacher's first name and surname. A middle name and date of birth are optional and can help disambiguate.
How Oho verifies it
Oho queries the NESA register asynchronously and returns a result in under five seconds. Once verified, Oho re-checks it on the schedule you set up in the Verification Sources tab and renewals are reflected automatically.
The NESA register only confirms that a registration number is "Active"; it does not match the name on its own. The real validation comes from matching the teacher's details, which Oho reflects in the status colour and flags. Treat an "Active" number with mismatched details as needing review, not a pass.
Reading the result
Every check resolves to one of a few outcomes, shown with a colour so it's easy to scan:
| Outcome | Colour | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| MAY_ENGAGE | Green | Valid and current — the person is cleared for the work. |
| MAY_NOT_ENGAGE | Red | Not valid — for example expired, suspended, cancelled, or no matching record. |
| REVIEW_REQUIRED | Yellow | Valid but carries conditions worth a person reviewing before relying on it. |
| IN_PROGRESS | Grey | Still being checked — some registers take a little longer to respond. |
| ERROR | Grey | The register couldn't be reached; Oho will try again. |
Oho keeps watching afterwards and updates the outcome automatically if the status changes, and the worker's profile keeps a history of every check.
